In 1851 the Long Servive Medal for the militia was instituted in two versions, one for officers one for other ranks. (see also: Militia Long Service medal other ranks). The medal is the same as the Officer's Long Service Medal, instituted in 1844. It only differs in the ribbon, which is totally orange, and the clasp, indicating the years in service, which is plain silver. The medal was abolished in 1907 when the militia were decomissioned.
